Call for Short, Vision and Competition Papers

A late window for work in progress, competition research, and big picture arguments about game AI. The deadline was 15 May 2017.

Deadline
15 May 2017
Paper types
3
Short papers
2 to 4 pages
Longer papers
Up to 8 pages

Why the call existed

The main CIG review cycle had already closed, but the conference kept a second window open for three kinds of work. The late call let authors bring smaller results, competition research, and longer arguments into the same review process.

Format 01

Short papers

Two to four pages for work in progress, a smaller project, or new progress on work published elsewhere. Any topic at the meeting point of AI and games was welcome.

Presentation: poster, with a short talk if time and space allowed.

Format 02

Competition papers

Up to eight pages on research tied to a CIG competition, including the design of a contest or a submission to one. Entering a competition without a paper was possible, but a paper was encouraged.

Presentation: short or regular oral slot.

Format 03

Vision papers

Up to eight pages setting out a researched view of the future of game AI or a part of it, with a substantial bibliography.

Presentation: regular oral slot.

Review and publication

Every submission went through peer review. Accepted papers were intended for the conference proceedings and IEEE Xplore. The call stated that competition papers would be held to the same standard as regular CIG papers, while vision papers would be held to a higher standard.

The published record is available through IEEE Xplore external site, opens in a new tab.

Remote participation

The 2017 call included a remote option for authors who could not travel to the United States because of visa restrictions or political events. Every accepted paper still had to be presented by a paying attendee, preferably in person, but remote presentation was allowed for those who could not attend.

Travel support for CIG 2017 came from the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society external site, opens in a new tab.
