What the program covered

IEEE CIS offered a limited number of travel grants to students and to professional researchers who were presenting one or more papers at a CIS sponsored conference. CIG 2017 used a single application system for both groups.

The grant was intended to reduce the cost of attending and presenting. Applicants had to be IEEE CIS members for the application to be processed.

Who could apply

Students could apply from any country, at undergraduate or graduate level. Professional researchers were eligible if they were based in a developing country and were presenting accepted work at the conference.

Student applications required proof of university attendance, a recommendation from a supervising professor, and a statement of the student's contribution to the paper. Professional applications required a contribution letter and a funding justification explaining why the registration fee would create an economic hardship.

03 / Conditions

What came with the grant.

These conditions were published with the 2017 program.

  • Only one author per paper could receive a travel grant.
  • An applicant could receive only one grant in a year.
  • IEEE and IEEE CIS membership were confirmed through the IEEE member database.
  • Student recipients had to present proof of university attendance at the conference.

Volunteer expectation

Students who received a travel grant were expected to help the conference team. Duties could include registration, ticket checks, audio visual support, and other conference tasks. The expectation was not meant to conflict with attending sessions or presenting a paper.

Further information about current support is available from the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society external site, opens in a new tab.
